Obstetrics and Gynecology are specialties that focus on two different aspects of the female reproductive systems.
Obstetrics specializes in the care of pregnant women, the unborn baby, labor and delivery and the immediate period following childbirth. The obstetrician ensures that mother and child get the best prenatal care to ensure labor and delivery is accomplished without complications and that should intervention be needed it is done quickly and safely.
Gynecology specializes with female the reproductive organs including the uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries, vagina or breasts during all the times a women is not pregnant. Gynecology also provides surgical management for female reproductive disorders or disease.
What is a midwife?
A Certified Nurse Midwife is a masters prepared registered nurse that specializes in midwifery. Through education, evidence based practices and shared-decision making we provide women of this community with the tools they need to feel comfortable about their healthcare. Midwives empower women to take an active approach to their healthcare and wellness. Here at Dean Ob/Gyn we provide in-hospital midwifery service.
What is a WHNP?
A women’s health nurse practitioner is a masters prepared registered nurse that specializes in comprehensive healthcare for women across their lifespan including both obstetrics and gynecology. They independently manage patients by assessing, diagnosing, prescribing and evaluating outcomes.
